The REPERTOIRE series is designed to help early secondary level students (12 to 14 years of age) become confident and skilled users of the English language. Using high interest learning situations, this tool focuses on the students' development of the following three competencies: interacting orally in English; reinvesting understanding of texts and writing and producing texts.
THE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS EFFECT! is the fifth of a 6-learning-situation series. The other learning situations are:
- Let’s make it a successful year!
- In Town without My car!
- Competition: Good, Bad or Unnecessary?
- Nutrition! Do you Care?
- Who Works When Others Take it Easy?
For schools, the PDF format of THE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS EFFECT! can be downloaded and reproduced to a certain extent according to an exclusive authorization by the publisher.
The activities of this learning situation can be realized in 6 to 8 hours. They include tasks that encourage cooperative learning and self-reflection as well as exercises that encompass the three dimensions of learning: cognitive, affective and social. Complimentary activities are also supplied for in-class work as well as homework: quizzes, riddles, vocabulary, and grammar.
Learning with Repertoire brings ESL secondary cycle one students beyond the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as it deals with important issues of contemporary life that students face in today's society.
