Lit Parade is a project which celebrates literature and the power of creativity. With a slim volume in mind, the authors set out with one clear objective: to find concise and accessible gems to create original literary content for the modern-day classroom. The titles of the seven chapters reflect the diversity of the material: Escape – Homeland – The Dating Game – Lighthouse – Happily (N)ever After – Nest – Outlandish. The authors have selected a variety of short stories and poems, including many from emerging Canadian writers from coast-to-coast, to expose students to unique backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. To broaden the scope, the authors have also added references to well-known writers as well as literary and cultural snapshots. All their material has been developed through a literary lens to cultivate students’ knowledge and build their confidence, whether they are analyzing a work of fiction, writing their own poem with literary devices, or participating in a literary task....with a twist!

The Authors
Carol Ann Martz (B.A., M.Ed.) is an English language and literature teacher with 35 years of experience who has taught all levels. For over 25 years, she was a faculty member at Cégep de Sainte-Foy. Her prime goal as both a teacher and events coordinator is to engage and inspire generations of students.
Karen McCoubrey (B.A., M.A.) is an English language and literature teacher at Cégep de Sainte-Foy as well as a chargée de cours at Université Laval's École de Langues. As a passionate English teacher for more than 25 years, she strives to offer her students a stimulating learning environment.
Illustrator
Will Dowd is an artist currently working as an editorial cartoonist for The Boston Globe. As someone living with physical disabilities, Will uses a variety of assistive technologies to write and draw.
